Kurt Cobain, Vocals/Guitar
Krist Novoselic, Bass
Dave Grohl, Drums/Vocals
Formed in 1987, Aberdeen WA
Kurt Cobain and Krist Novoselic were first introduced
by Buzz Osborne, of the Melvins, in 1985.
Drummer Daze: During its early days, the band went through a series of names as well as drummers. The earliest drummer, Aaron Burckhard, was soon replaced by Dale Crover of the Melvins, who also played on Nirvana's first demos. Dave Foster also held a brief moment in time as the band's drummer. Later in 1988, they hired drummer Chad Channing for the Bleach sessions. After those sessions, Channing was gone and Dale Crover filled in again until Nirvana brought in Mudhoney drummer Dan Peters, whom recorded "Sliver" with them. Nirvana finally found themselves a lasting drummer when Buzz Osborne, of the Melvins, introduced them to Dave Grohl, whose D.C. hardcore band, "Scream", had just broke up.

Brief History: During 1987, Nirvana made ten demos with producer Jack Endino. They played their first show under the name Nirvana in March, 1988. A couple of months later, Nirvana released their first single "Love Buzz/Big Cheese" on Seattle indie label Sub Pop. In 1989, they released their first full-length album, Bleach. also produced by Jack Endino.
In 1990, Nirvana made the leap to a major label, signing with DGC Records and beginning work with producer Butch Vig on their first major label release, Nevermind. On January 11, 1992, the album reached #1 on the Billboard album charts.
While waiting for their next full-length, DGC released Incesticide in December 1992, a collection of singles, EP songs, rarities and B-sides. In December 1993, In Utero, was released. It was produced by Steve Albini, known for magic on the Pixies album Surfer Rosa. In Utero debuted at #1 on the Billboard album chart. For the tour, the band brought in a second guitarist, Pat Smear of the punk rock band The Germs. In November 1993, Nirvana taped an appearance on MTV Unplugged.

In 1994, after wrapping up their North American tour on January 8th with a show at the Seattle Center Arena, they left for their European tour. Following a final show in Munich on February 29, Cobain and Courtney decided to stay in Rome for a vacation. On March 4th, she woke up to find that Cobain unconscious after overdosing on tranquilizers. On March 18th, the police had to talk Cobain out of suicide after he locked himself in a room threatening to kill himself. An intervention occured and Cobain checked into drug rehabilitation. After less than a week, Cobain climbed over the wall of the treatment center and took a plane back to Seattle. April 8, 1994, Cobain was found dead of an apparent self-inflicted shotgun blast to the head at his Seattle home. Cobain, never quite comfortable with stardom, had effectively ended Nirvana.

The 20th Anniversary Re-Issue of Bleach

Sub Pop Records is marking the 20th anniversary of Nirvana’s Bleach, by a spectacular reissue and re-mastering of the band’s 1989 debut album. It includes an expanded CD/double white vinyl collection, an unreleased bonus live album called Live at Pine Street Theatre, which was recorded at the Portland, Oregon venue on February 9th, 1990. Both Bleach re-issue and the live Pine Street Theatre concert have been digitally remastered from the original tapes by the master himself, Jack Endino, who also produced Nirvana’s debut LP.
As on original vinyl release of Bleach, the first-run double-LPs will be printed on white vinyl. The songs “Big Cheese” and “Downer” will be featured on vinyl for the first time after being taken off the original album release. Both the CD and the LP will come with a booklet with never-before-seen photographs of Kurt Kobain, Krist Novoselic and drummer Chad Channing (pre-Dave Grohl).
The Pine Street Theatre concert includes some of Bleach album played at the
show, along with Incesticide’s “Dive,” “Molly’s Lips” and “Been
A Son" were included. “Spank Thru” from the Sub Pop 200
and a early live version of “Sappy,” which was called “Verve Chorus
Verse” when it was released on 1993’s "No Alternative" benefit
CD.
Members of Nirvana on BLEACH: Kurt Cobain (vocals, guitar); Jason
Everman (guitar); Krist Novoselic (bass); Chad Channing (drums).
Dale Crover (drums) also appears on Bleach.
Originally recorded at Reciprocal Recording in Seattle.

Nirvana: Live At Reading - History in 1992
Nirvana's 90 minute, 25-song set, headlining at England' Reading
Festival, has long been talked about and shared, in poor quality,
through bootleggers. Now in remastered, in 5.1 Surround Sound,
the antics and angst that WAS Nirvana in 1992 is finally brought to
full life.
The concert includes a healthy selection of their current album at that
time, Nevermind, as well as songs from their first album Bleach.
They also previewed a few songs that would be included in 1993's In
Utero and played a few cover songs.
The incredible set ends with "Territorial Pissings" and with Cobain,
Novaselic and Grohl violently smashing their instruments.
What a great opportunity to see Nirvana in concert again. [BUY

Ranked #1 in Kerrang Magazine's "100 Gigs That Shook The World" and
voted as "Nirvana's #1 Greatest Moment" by fans in an NME poll,
Nirvana's historic August 30, 1992 headlining appearance at the UK's
Reading Festival is one of the most bootlegged concerts in rock and
roll.
Finally being released is a pristine
copy of that entire performance -- color-corrected video from the
original film with audio sourced from the original multi-track masters.
Nirvana Live At Reading will be issued in a limited edition CD+DVD
Deluxe Edition as well as DVD-only, CD-only configurations on November
3, 2009, followed by a 2LP version on November 17, 2009.
