Formed in Aberdeen, WA

    Singer/guitarist Buzz Osborne (left) and drummer Dale Crover have been the one constant in the   Melvins, however, several bass guitarists have been through the group, and they tend to add more guitarists for their live shows. 
    Melvins were formed in the early 1980s by Buzz, Matt Lukin and Mike Dillard, who all went to High School together in Washington state.  Kurt Cobain also auditioned to join the band on bass, but he didn't make it!
    The Melvins musical approach is known for it's very slow and heavy tempos.  They never found mainstream success, although during the fever of Seattle signings in the nineties, the Melvins signed with Atlantic Records, for three records, beginning with 1993's Houdini - parts of which were produced by Kurt Cobain.  They continue to have a passionate cult following.
